Elysium: A Journey from Nature to Skincare

Can skincare connect us to the roots of nature and ourselves?

Elysium transforms the act of skincare into a journey of connection, creativity, and self-discovery. Working as a part of a team, as the lead strategist and designer, we developed this concept as a sub-brand to bring Aesop’s natural ethos to life. Elysium is a dual space—a lush botanical garden and a hands-on studio—where visitors immerse themselves in the process of crafting Aesop products. The project wove design, branding, and strategy into a seamless experience, reimagining customer interaction through sustainability and transparency.

Crafting Paradise: The Design Process

1. Rooting the Vision The project began with identifying a gap in Aesop’s luxury experience—bridging its aspirational image with broader accessibility. Drawing on Aesop’s heritage of botanical excellence, Elysium is envisioned as a garden-meets-studio concept. This was designed to be both a serene retreat and an educational hub, with sustainability at its core. 2. Growing the Narrative Building the brand story, the name “Elysium” was chosen, a Greek paradise. The design language centered on natural Australian botanicals, incorporating earthy toned colour palette to complement Aesop’s classic minimalist aesthetic. Inspired by immersive experiences, ensured that visitors felt connected to the origin of every product. 3. Sculpting the Experience The physical spaces were imagined as sensory-rich environments: the garden offers open access to seasonal botanicals, while the studio invites guests to craft custom skincare products. Wayfinding, visual design, and curated touchpoints ensured seamless transitions between exploration, creation, and relaxation. 4. Refining the Details By integrating customer personas and journey maps, the experience was fine-tuned to cater to diverse visitors—from seasoned Aesop enthusiasts to curious newcomers. Sustainable practices, like a refill station and composting biowaste, were central to the design, aligning with Aesop’s eco-conscious values. 5. A Lasting Legacy Elysium is more than a brand extension; it’s a transformative experience. From the garden’s tranquil beauty to the studio’s creative empowerment, Elysium embodies Aesop’s mission to nurture well-being through nature, craftsmanship, and community.
